Grapes during the pregnancy?

Today it’s time to dedicate our post to nutrition and food.

Specifically, about the consumption of grapes in the gestation period, and how it affects in all its forms to the mother and the baby.

It is well known that the grape has numerous benefits for our body for reasons that we will list below. But are grapes good in pregnancy?

First of all, we will talk about the effect of grapes on the mother.

Grapes provide a generous number of antioxidants that in addition to preventing aging help to prevent infections and increase immunity, since sometimes this is diminished in this period.

The magnesium present in grapes helps reduce cramps in pregnancy. Grapes are rich in fibre, so they are an ideal snack to combat constipation.

Moreover, grapes have folic acid – especially red ones – a vitamin element that acts directly in cell division and multiplication during embryonic development. Increasing doses of folic acid helps prevent spina bifida and any nerve disorders in the foetus. Another element is the resveratrol of grapes that helps control cholesterol and hypertension in pregnancy.

A bunch of grapes provides the necessary amount for our body and in addition, they can be a good appetizer or “snack” especially when cravings appear between meals.

Recommendations

The consumption of grapes is not recommended for pregnant women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, since grapes contain a high percentage of glucose and provide many calories.

In addition, if they are in the first trimester of gestation, excess consumption of this fruit is discouraged, since acidity levels are usually high. In this case it is recommended that they be eaten in moderation.

On the other hand, grape consumption benefits both children and the foetus for the following reasons:

Children assimilate sugars very fast. Vitamin A promotes the development of vision. The vitamin B contained in this fruit can somehow control the metabolism and its speed. Grapes also favour the proper development of the nervous system due to their sodium and calcium content. Phosphorus helps improve the genes of the foetus and form nucleic acid.

To sum up, grapes are beneficial for the body for numerous reasons. And it helps the correct growth and development of the foetus in this case.
