Let’s speak about varieties

12th July. Uvasdoce Fresh starts its Spanish season with 3 very special varieties that we will now introduce to you:

IFG Candy Snaps™
Grape type:Red seedless
Variety:IFG Twenty-One
Commercial Name:IFG Candy Snaps™
Variety Programme/Breeder:IFG
Main features:Its special flavour, which is like that of a strawberry sweet

Candy Snaps is one of the earliest special-flavoured varieties. In fact, it is the first of the 6 to be harvested (Candy Snaps, Candy Dreams, Candy Drops, Candy Hearts, Candy Crunch and Cotton Candy). They make up the Candy collection from the breeder International Fruits Genetics, better known by its acronym IFG.

It stands out, like its companions in the collection, for its exceptional sweet flavour. A muscatel taste, which reminds many of an ice cream or strawberry sweet. In addition to its intense flavour, its beautiful deep maroon colour makes it a very attractive variety for the consumer.

Its berries do not stand out for their size, although when treated with great care in the field, they can reach a medium size, between 16-20mm, and avoid the clusters to be overcrowded. For a perfect harvest, so that the grapes do not disappoint those who taste them, their sugar level must be above 20º brix. Pure sweetness that delights the youngest members of the family and, of course, their parents, who can find the healthiest sweets on most supermarket shelves.

Tip: In addition to offering them to the little ones in the house —you will see how they fall in love with them—, do not hesitate to combine them with a good cheese board, or even to top that summer cocktail we prepare after a good dinner.

Ivory
Grape type:White seedless
Variety:Sheegene 21
Commercial Name:Ivory™
Variety Programme/Breeder:SNFL
Main features:Intense sweetness

Ivory is one of the earliest white seedless varieties, one of the first ones to be harvested in Spain. We can already taste them in the Murcia area, and very soon in the Alicante area.

But this is not its main feature, since Ivory, in addition to many other things, stands out for its intense sweet flavour. Moreover, its creamy yellow colour and its size of over 19 mm make it a very attractive variety, especially for consumers in the Mediterranean area.

Its breeder, Special New Fruit Licensing (SNFL) sets a minimum of 18 brix for harvesting, which ensures that it reaches our tables with all its sweetness.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to combine it with any savoury appetizer since it will give it a special touch and surprise your guests. And if you want it to be present on your menu twice, you can make a delicious jam with it to go with a cheesecake. You will not believe how tasty you can make this traditional cake.

IFG Sweet Celebration™
Grape type:Red seedless
Variety:IFG 68-175
Commercial Name:IFG Sweet Celebration™
Variety Programme/Breeder:IFG
Main features:Its fiery red colour

Sweet Celebration is without a doubt one of the best positioned candidates for the title of best red seedless grapes. Its fiery red colour makes it very attractive visually, and its crunchy texture and sweet flavour do not disappoint in the mouth.

In Spain, it is one of the first reds to be harvested, although not the earliest, as it is preceded by at least two or three varieties, but with other features. We can already find the first bunches in Spain from early areas such as Andalusia or Murcia, and in 7-10 days they will be ready in the Vinalopó Valley to reach all Spanish homes and delight kids and adults alike.

It is one of the most widely cultivated varieties in the world, which allows us to enjoy it for a good part of the year. In January, we can have it from Peru, in February and March from South Africa, then from Chile, and the latest to get on board are the Egyptians. This allows us to extend its season until May-June, and then continue with the Spanish season.

The total round shape of its berries gives the impression of being smaller in size, but it is a variety that can reach 20-22 mm without any problem. Its brix level of 18+ ensures an exquisite sweetness.

Tip: A cheese board with 8 cheeses from different Spanish geographical areas, a bunch of Sweet Celebration grapes and a bottle of red wine from Alicante. Enjoy a feast of flavours!
